movie night on the deck

After quite a long break from renovating our place, we have restarted with something that both Noel and I have been eager to build - the deck!  Although it still needs quite a bit doing to it, we've already started to enjoy it.

With the help from a friend and my Dad, we've got the deck to this stage.

With every home we've renovated, we always start with the garden, not sure why....but we do.   This is the newest part of the garden and still in a development stage, but once this deck's complete, we will be able to join everything up together.

The plan tonight is to set up and watch old movies outside.  By the look of the day it might be a perfect night for it.

First things first....Movie Night Popcorn!

I have not bought popping corn for a very long time!  After taking ages to find it in the supermarket....in the soft drink aisle if you're ever looking.....I wanted to take a little trip down memory lane and turn it into 'Lolly Gobble Bliss Bombs!'

Covering this freshly popped and salted popcorn with a caramel nutty sauce....oh my hat!

Recipe - Honey Caramel popcorn

5 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup of popcorn
salt

125gms butter
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup caster sugar
1 cup pecans, chopped

Add the olive oil to a heavy base pot, once it's just heated place 2 or 3 of the popping corns into the pot, if it starts to pop then it's ready, don't let your oil get too hot.  Place the rest of the corn into the pot and put the lid and start to swirl pot around, until you can't heard any more popping.   Now at this point just check through your popcorn to make sure it's all popped.  Mine didn't the first round, so I popped it back on the heat for a little and swirled the pot again, then add salt.

In a small saucepan melt the butter, honey and sugar, stir until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce is a lovely caramel colour.  Add your chopped pecans, stir in.

Grab a baking tray and cover with baking paper, tip your honey caramel popcorn onto the tray, spread out and wait to cool.  Once cool break into chucks and enjoy.

Popcorn ready, woolly jumpers gathered, vintage projector screen up.....action!

The movie of choice tonight is Alfred Hitchcock's, The Birds - classic!!

I can see us out here every night in summer, watching movies, having BBQ's, maybe a cocktail or two!!

Now the trick will be to pry the popcorn off this knee and onto my own! x Julie
